The Copenhagen Marathon is for everyone

15-20 years ago, a marathon was just for elite runners - out of the league of the average jogger. But that’s not the case anymore.

With a dramatic rise in the number of people who run to keep fit, more and more of us have drummed up the courage to sweat out the 42.195 km and go for the finish line.

This is also reflected in the numbers taking part, with the 14,000 people on the Copenhagen asphalt in May 2014 (the first race in 1980 attracted some 1000 runners). The spectrum of runners ranges right through from elite runners, who need only two and a half hours to complete the distance, to 75-year-old keep fit enthusiasts, who raise their arms in victory after a six-hour battle to the finish line.
